Christmas time is here, by golly! Had enough of the usual Christmas Carol? Not nuts for The Nutcracker? Would rather not endure another sing along Messiah? How about these alternatives:

PianoFight’s hilarious Christmas tradition, scripted by the talented Daniel Heath, allows the audience to vote which way the story will go at certain key points in the plot (i.e., where the story “forks”). Hence, a “forking” Christmas. It’s funny stuff, and the actors toss out free beer to some lucky audience members. Take that, Tiny Tim! Â Here’s a review from last year.

The Golden Girls Christmas Episodes
Celebrated drag queens Heklina (Dorothy), Cookie Dough (Sophia), Matthew Martin (Blanche) and Pollo del Mar (Rose) bring the Golden Girls to life in respectful, but funny, tribute to the TV classic. When Martin/Blanche goes into his/her seductive wriggle, it’ll shake your belly like a bowl full of jelly. Here’s last year’s review.

This yearly extravaganza (this year is number 27) features numerous choral groups, a cast of 80, singalongs and the comedic talents of Jeff Raz (who has performed with Cirque du Soleil and founded the The Clown Conservatory), Tristan Cunningham (who began clowning at age 10 with Vermont’s famed Circus Smircus) and Mahsa Martin (San Francisco’s own One Woman Band).

Scrooge: The Haunting of Ebenezer
Okay, so you must have your Christmas Carol? Boxcar Theatre, one of San Francisco’s cadre of top notch smaller, experimental houses, presents “Scrooge: The Haunting of Ebenezer”, a one man rendition by the excellent actor, Jeff Garrett.
So stick your “Bah Humbug” where the sun doesn’t shine (under the plum pudding) and go get some spirit.
